Course Summary
Understanding the significance of catechesis for both nurturing an encounter with Jesus Christ within those we catechize and appreciating one’s sense of vocation as a catechist.

General Course Objectives
- To grasp the basic history of the Church’s catechetical ministry
- To understand what it means to be a catechist today
- To study the various stages of human development in line with spiritual development of both the catechist and the learner/participant.

Course Structure and Highlights
- Week 1: Catechetical Ministry within the Church
- To grasp the basic history of the Church’s catechetical ministry
- To understand and embrace ‘What it means to be a Catechist in the 21st century’.
- To explain what Pope Francis means by the role of the catechist is to ‘keep alive the living memory of a living God’.
- Week 2: The Six Tasks of Catechesis
- To identify the six tasks of catechesis
- To identify how you, as a catechist, address or implement these six tasks within your catechetical ministry
- Week 3: Catechists Learn By Doing
- To explain the meaning and application of apprenticeships in the faith.
- To identify specific catechetical methodologies/techniques for learning by doing for embracing one’s faith.
- To identify ways, the catechist may incorporate new media into the catechetical process.
